During the major earthquake in Abruzzo of April 2009 I was impressed with the media coverage of the event. Everywhere I looked I only could see cameras, microphones and journalists constantly reporting the event. Journalists tapping on the window of cars with sleeping people in it just to ask them if they were made homeless by the earthquake.Thousands of tents filled with homeless and studio lights pointed at them made everything seem unreal. For the first time I realized how deeply mainstream media can make a show out of any tragedy, even the worst one. The same event I was telling with my photos was so diffent when seen on tv and somehow it looked to me more true on tv than in my perception. Being a photographer myslef I can’t pull myself out of this circus but at least I can take a step back and try to tell a different story.
